Education at Permaculture Picnic
Learn. Grow. Thrive Together.
We believe in the transformative power of growing your own food. With the help of friends, experts, and a community that cares, we’re building beautiful gardens while learning from one another.
This event has two main goals:
-
Education & Collaboration: Learn and share the art of gardening through hands-on activities and create a database of knowledge accessible to everyone.
-
Eco-Transformation: Help transform Tico Time RV Resort into a thriving eco-learning and recreation hub through practical training and sustainable practices.
Whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned gardener, our workshops are here to empower you to create something beautiful—and edible!

Workshops at The Permaculture Picnic
Dive into the Microcosm
Navona Gallegos
In this workshop we'll learn about and play with the wild world of microorganisms and how they affect nearly every aspect of our lives. Come learn about how to build soil, how not to build soil, why we would build soil in the first place, and how everything from our gut health to mental health to the rise and fall of civilizations is connected to creatures that live beneath our feet.

Navona Gallegos has worked professionally in the space of soil and ecology for 11 years. Her work is informed by deep multi-generational farming roots in New Mexico as well as education from the University of Virginia in Ecology, Permaculture Design, and Dr. Elaine Ingham’s Soil Food Web School. Navona incorporates western science and permaculture training with lived experience as a farmer.

What's Permaculture??
Permaculture is a way of working with nature to design systems that are sustainable and self-sufficient. It’s about more than just gardening—permaculture includes food, water, soil, and even waste management. By learning its principles, you can turn any space into a thriving ecosystem that benefits both you and the planet.

What You’ll Learn
No experience? No problem! Our Education Program is open to everyone, and we’ll guide you every step of the way. Here’s what you can expect:
Water Catchment: Learn how to collect, store, and manage water to support your garden and reduce waste.
Sustainable Growing Techniques: Discover how to grow your own food using innovative methods for small spaces, urban areas, and larger gardens.
Soil Regeneration: Transform even the poorest soil into fertile ground using natural composting and recycling practices.
Recycling for Sustainability: Turn everyday waste into valuable resources—learn how to repurpose materials, reduce landfill impact, and close the loop on waste.
Hands-On Workshops
We believe the best way to learn is by doing. That’s why we host interactive workshops where you can:
We will be hosting hands-on garden displays.
Practice real-life techniques for recycling and composting.
Learn directly from expert practitioners in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment.
Build connections with people from around the world who are passionate about sustainable living.

Why It Matters To Us
There is a need for us to know how to grow our own food, anywhere. We hope to be a part of the continued movement of people applying this knowledge with their own hands.
The success of this project will include an interactive database hosted on this website in order to allow people to search for growing techniques and read tips and testimonials from people either in your region, or in a similar climate.
